So they can look cute for their man. A woman would think they man is a fruitcake if he wore make-up. I personally want a manly man and not someone with eyeshadow on..

Always wondered that myself. One of prettiest women I ever knew in my life never wore any make-up. She is 55 now and still doesn't wear any and she is still as pretty as when I met her when she was sixteen. She has a wisp of gray hair and doesn't dye it either.
Peer pressure is the number reason most women wear make-up, just like they wear a certain kind of jeans. I have a fifteen year old daughter, who has the most beautiful head of brunette hair and she has mentioned numerous times that she wants to dye it a different color, Go figure. We haven't let her yet and hope she changes her mind about that.
Men don't wear make-up as a rule because we don't care much about what others think of us, that is, how we look anyway. If someone doesn't like me as I am that is their problem. Anyway Avon makes enough money without my input.

I asked the same question actually.. Anyway, I think because it makes women feel good about themselves that they are pretty, they want to look good, not just for men but for themselves. Kinda same like dressing up..
On the contrary, men with make up is not considered by society to look great, unless on TV. But by dressing up as well and be neat.

Men for the most part are visually attracted to women. In pre-historic times, men chose women who looked healthier. Women who wore makeup could look healthier for longer.

Actually, for a while, men did too, at least up until the time of Louis XIV, as well as wigs and high heels. In some subcultures, they still do, such as the Goth movement, but for the most part, you are correct, it is something we do no longer. Even when they did, was something mainly nobles did and was considered somewhat foppish.
