Can anyone tell me when I should prune my hydranger?

NO.depending which part of the country you are in will determine when to prune,as a general rule when all possibility of frost has gone that is fine so maybe March/April South West & May - Midlands.

The mop heads should be left on until March or after the heavy frosts have finished.Then remove any weaker branches. It's only Hydrangea 'grandiflora' that needs hard pruning.

Hi,
If you leave the old flower heads on the plant until next spring, it will help protect the plant from frost damage to the new shoots. You can then cut them back in the warmer weather.

don,t prune your hydrangea till the spring when the frost have cleared,the dead tops help to protect the plant from hard weather.
