But I've never really bought designer clothes and while I have some money to spend I don't have hundreds and hundreds!
Where would be a good place to start?
I also noticed that ALL of the glamerous people had really straight, sleek hair - does that mean that mega curls like mine are not the in thing? 'Cos I don't really want to start straightnening it again ...

The people who look the best are those who wear clothes that suit their lifestyle and figure. Work out what your lifestyle needs and figure features and flaws are and work from there.
Do not start straightening your hair if it is naturally curly. Too much straightening will ruin its condition and while Hollywood has access to the best hairdressers to fix those problems, you don't. It's also labour intensive.
Every woman should have a couple of pairs of tailored black pants (no pleats - flat front only), a pair of jeans that fits well in a suitable colour (darker is better than lighter), a couple of pairs of flats, kitten heels, a black shift dress, a dressy top, and some casual tops (not necssarily tees - these can look underdressed). Work around these staples. A good watch also looks classy.
Makeup wise - Revon makes good foundations, use eyeliner and mascara and an eyelash curler. Use cream blush and lipstick. You don't need expensive ones - maybelline mascara and eyeliner is great, MAC lipsticks are great.
That's all. Buy stuff that you can wear a lot and will last rather than a whol range of cheaper pieces that will fall apart as soon as you wash them. You can find reasonably priced clothes (mid range labels found in most department stores) that last for two to three years. And get your hair cut every 8 weeks.
No one needs Chanel or Prada to look goood - granted it's beautiful - but no one needs it to look attractive. Save that kind of money for buying a house.

I don't care what anyone says, I get the most compliments on my hair when it is curly.

Also, Topshop and other high street stores are just as fashionable as designer labels. Or, if you have a few expensive items i.e. bag, sunglasses, boots etc, you can wear them with something from Primark and still look good. It's all about how you wear your clothes, not where you get them from.

In my opinion, go for cheaper clothes as you can update them more often without becoming bankrupt...unless you are a millionaire.

It worked, didn't it? You thought you were going to watch a film for an evening's gentle entertainment - but you were subjected to a brainwashing / advertising experience designed to make you feel inadequate and feel like you had to spend your hard-earned money.

Resist!

Have your hair in a style that YOU like, not how the people who tell you they're glamorous have it.

Buy and wear clothes that YOU like, not the label that you're told is glamorous.

people with straight hair wants to perm them and vise versa. Stick to your natural hair type. its not worth buying designer clothes unless your really rich. Wearing designer stuff only impresses people who are familiar with them. Normal girls and guys around you wont even know if you're wearing a channel coat or not, unless your coat has that big cc buckles on them ;-)

It's how you put clothes together that really matter
You can wear Vuitton, Prada, DKNY and Dior - it can still look terrible without proper taste.

I know people who can make outfits that look like designer under $100

advertising works - doesnt it

i say dont buy anything - they just wanna brain wash you into thinking that you NEED to buy new things.
be yourself if you dont want straight hair - then dont have straight hair.
