The oil in which they fry the fries in is the same oil in which they deep fry their fish and chicken. Cross-contamination is the only reason why McD's fries are not strictly vegetarian. It's about the oil not really not about the (artificial) flavours they use. I guess they think to use different oil for different fryers would be costly and too much of a pain. I do think that it's only a matter of time though before they come out with the veggie-friendly fry - they must bow to consumers wishes eventually or fall behind.

No, you can eat McDonald's fries. No animal product is used in the preparation of these items. Any flavouring is artificial. McDonald's had a big scare in India some years ago when they were accused of using beef dripping to prepare their fries. Not true either.
Why you would WANT to eat fries at McDonald's is another question though...

They don't anymore, as of about 5 years ago. The reason is some Hindu vegetarians made a big stink about it, crying because they might have eated 1/10 of a percent of grandpa Nahasapeemapetilon. McDonald's bent over backwards for them, which is why their fries suck now. Arby's has the best fries now in my opinion. Boy do I miss eating fries made with drippings of dead reincarnated Hindus!

They do have a beef flavored additive during the blanching process. Leave it to test markets and test kitchens in the ivory tower at Mcdonald University. They say it is synthetic flavor. Not to say that is better.

If you're vegetarian because you don't like the idea of animals being killed for food, or because you want to eat healthily, stay away from McDonalds. If it's just that you want to avoid eating flesh, then there's nothing in McDonalds that should cause you any problems.

You can, but you don't want to, and just because it is a flavour does not mean it is real meat, I would assume that it is artificial flavour like most of MacDo
