Unless I've been wrong all my life and the Burlin Wall was built to keep people out.

One point is that often people stay in power by doing what will get them back into power rather than what is needed for the greater benifit of the nation.

A pure democracy would be a disaster. It would take many freedoms away, as it would be mob rule.
A democratic republic, which is what the United States has, works well if the people are intelligent enough to see the bias in every written word.

in theory boon because it is "what the people want" However that just makes the populous win, not necessarily enforce the right answer. Example:

100 people vote, it is okay to litter on the ground?, 99 people say yes, 1 person says no. Because the majority states that it is okay to litter it is okay to litter...

Is is okay to litter? Because 1 person says no doesn't make it okay to litter.

It doesn't matter if the majority of the people "believe" in the wrong answer. It doesn't make the wrong answer right.
