I have just removed Norton Antivirus, personal firewall, Privacy Control, Antispam, and Parental Control after my registration expired. I have downloaded Avast AntiVirus, but would like to know of other decent free programs to replace the rest of my Norton product. Is Windows Security Firewall etc enough or good enough?

Avast is very good!

Please don't download and run any other Anti-Virus package, since that could result in conflicts.

However, I would reccommend that you download and use Advanced WindowsCare v2 Personal 2.10.32158.

This free license home users Package does a lot of Clean Up Jobs that Avast doesn't do and is something that will complement it rather than get into a conflict with Avast.

You can download your free copy from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4991.html

I'm sorry, but there isn't any UK Mirror where you can download it from there, but, if you don't like the US Mirrors, you can use the Aussie ones there.

All the best.

Cheers.

PS,

The Yanks aren't all that bad, luv.

I was using Norton at home, and Mcafee in the office. I am an IT Manager managing scores of computer across a few countries.

I was forced to remove Norton as it was taking control of my system like nobody's business and frustrated me a lot.

Mcafee was very good and not much complaint.

But recently migrated to F-Secure and it seems to be very proactive and very intuitive..

For antispyware, I recommend spybot search and destroy, Ad-Adware SE Personal, (can be downloaded from www.download.com) and AVG Antispyware(AVG Home Page)
For firewall, I recommend Comodo firewall and Zonealarm firewall.
For antispam, Comodo Antispam is also a good choice.
For antivirus, I prefer AVG antivirus (www.download.com)
I have been using the above software and felt that they were great.

you live in UK, i live in UK too. so i really want to share this information with you. there's one thing about universities in uk, they dont use norton, only use mcafee. i had once asked them why they use mcafee only. i got the answer is mcafee is the best in uk, personally as i recognise, mcafee 2006 is much lighter than norton, it eats less system memory than norton does. furthermore, mcafee is much stable than norton, i've never seen any problems happening with mcafee, but alot of problems occurs with norton.
besides, you can try bitdefender or karspersky, they are very good as well and of course, better than norton and mcafee

I use AVG and Zone Alarm, both free and both seemingly effective. I gave up on Norton after downloading a new subscription which stopped my computer working. They never questioned why I wanted a refund so they must know of problems.

Doubt you'll find anything for free replacing what Norton has to offer. I'd pay the cash for Norton 2007 if you can.

actually although i swear by PANDA , windows firewall in sp2 is not a bad product as i had to use it on my other desktop for a month until i bought an additional license for panda but now i believe that pandas 2007 product comes with 3 licenses instead of 1 now. it's not free but it's worth it if you value your pc. :-)
