Americans widely consider "racism" as hatred or dislike between the black population and the white population. For the record, I am firmly not racist by any means. However, my concerns are that many of the minority groups are racist. My experience comes from dating and having an intimate relationship with several beautiful black women and I am currently married to a Hispanic woman who comes from a very enriched Spanish family. When I had dated black women in the past, I was informed by them that their family was NOT happy that she was dating a white man or had a "white lover" (in those exact words). My wifes Mexican family had a direct issue that she was dating a "White guy?" Why is this? When does it become reverse racism? In my time I have heard many women that I have asked out say that "I dont date white men". For the record, two of the black females I dated had never dated a white man. My wife also told me she had never dated a white man. Continued...

IMO, two wrongs do not make a right. I feel we are regressing as a society. I CAN understand attraction to a certain type. For instance, a black woman I occasionally met with was partially intimate with me, but would not sleep with me BECAUSE I was white. Her attraction to me was that I was different. Apparently, I was atypical of the typical white man. I am a very muscular build with a deep voice, and I dress rugged. But, I dont see color and she did and partiallybecause of her family's beliefs.

TIMOTHY DL, you TOTALLY missed the message buddy. How did you get that I was racist? I am married outside of my race. Man, the ignorance of some gives many others a bad name.

RedPanda,

As a white man, if I were to suggest that my children stick within their race, would I then be considered a racist? I feel I would because I am white. Whereas if my wife stuck with a Spanish man, she is preserving her culture. Fortunately, my wife and I are very much in love and this hasnt hampered our relationship. But, the reasoning as to why their dislike for whites is accepted is beyond me. If I did feel a dislike for a certain group, I would be turned inside out by all of society.

Do you think that there's more or less dislike or distain for white women in interractial relationships? Or black men? Or any other gender/race combination?

Racism is commonplace, although a lot of people try to fool themselves into thinking it's not. Also, there is no such thing as "reverse racism". Blacks or mexicans hating you for trying to date their family member is the same flavor of racism as in any other case.

Believe it or not, everyone has the right to like or hate anyone else for any reason. It's infuriating to see racism so drastically villified, when in fact it is the rule...not the exception. Since when did the Thought Police start trying to tell us how we can feel towards others?

We are not this wonderfully open and accepting society that talk show shrinks like to make us out to be. Many, many families do NOT want to see their family members date outside their race. That is simply their cultural perspective, and it is not open to debate or judgement by others....whether the family is white, black, mexican, or any other race.

Yes, it's because there are so few white men out there. Whites are the world's minority and they don't have enough kids to sustain the population so interracial relationships just mean fewer of an already dwindling minority. Also, it seems like all races- Indians, Blacks, Asians etc. desire white people both men and women so whites are going extinct at a very fast rate these days.

10-20 years ago if a white male married a Hispanic female the family considered it to be a goodthing. This would increase her economic status, it was the white families that objected. But as other races have felt comfortable enough the "fight back" its White male's that are getting the crap, sorry its just your turn?
I am married to a hispanic male, his father says things directed against both blacks and white.......he raised a big fit when my daughter (a white child) walked to school with a little black boy.
This was the first encounter my daughter had ever had with racist remarks, I on the other had just gave it back to, "well at least when they grow up and have childern they will be the same color as you she just wants her kids to fit into our family" he smiled and laughed, said "yeah guess you are right"
His family loves me and my daughter, there are times when he gets on his white bashing kicks, " I will get his attention and say "hey I am right her" we both laugh and he will say "not you"
Its been the White males (fathers, brothers) that have disowned white females for dating outside thier race.
So I was on pins when I took my hispanic husband home to meet my six older brothers.......turned out they loved him!
The world is becoming more exceptive, of people as the person they are, and not as a race, gender or a religion. As it should always be.
Its just your time, grin and bear it, we all will fall together soon!
Just some die-hard fools make it tough on all of us!

People especially parents see their children dating people of another race as a rejection of their race/culture and of them.

Racism is the application of bigotry to a whole group of people based not on their actions but on who they are. It is not racism when a black father objects to you dating his daughter because his dislike is based on your actions not your race. In fact it may not even be aimed at you. In my experience the family is likely to be as or more angry at the family member dating outside the race or culture as they are at the date/lover.

I had a boss who is polish his wife is German descent. His family was horrified that he was dating a German girl. According to him they kept asking how can you date the enemy? This despite them being white.

Im still trying to figure this one out. I'm a white girl married to an Arab and it was a big deal to my loved ones. It took time for them to realize he was a human being with a big heart, great morals and a great personality. It is a human flaw to personify people just by saying "he's a mexican/ he's a jew/ he's black" and seeing that person as JUST THAT... a label. It takes being thrown into the world of those 'labels' to make people realize they are lovable and can bring a lot of joy in your lives. It's just ignorance and fear of differances that divides us all.

You speak of your individual experience. However, there are many parts in this world, where the whites are revered and even looked upon as a superior race! Obviously, this answer too, is based on personal experience.

Thats the tough part about the relationship, as for me, I could care less, it's someone else's business who to fall in love with, not mine. It's your relationship, so screw them ! make like you could care less what they think, and I'm sure you don't care what they think, or you would'nt have gotten married, In-laws are always trouble, no matter what culture they are from, stay away from them as much as possible, be pleasant, short visits, go to functions for about an hour or two, then "JET" outta there before someone gets "BEER BALLS" and says something stupid, I'd make it an hour.

Well buddy, welcome to the sterio-typical place we call, "The World." It's just people's opinions... (almost racism) of you.
I strongly agree with you, it's not wrong at all to date different races. And it IS wrong to judge you by the color of your skin. It IS wrong to prohibit you from doing normal things because the color of your skin.

It's possible that your wife's family feels that you are inferior, and they prefer their people to stick together.
