As with football the offside rule can be made complicated, but the best way to understand it is to park your car on the correct side of the road, with the correct flow off traffic, that is the way you would normally be facing if you were driving, and the offside is the side furthest away from the curb, just a little note to let you know that manufactures have the same problem, and now use right or left side as you are sat in the drivers seat .

If you want to know about offside in football (soccer) then i cannot help you there sorry.

The side furthest from the side of the road. Usually the drivers side unless you are driving a left hand drive in UK or a right hand drive in Europe ... then it gets complicated!

from the answers it looks like to me that there is not an obvious answer to your question. Both offer an understandable explanation. I have never heard either side of a car referred to as "on" or "off" side. I'm not sure where you could go for the correct answer. Maybe an automobile manufacturer? I would try contacting one of them. Good luck.

Whether it is left hand drive, as in most countries, or right hand drive in others, it is always the side away from the kerb, or nearest the middle of the road.
