I do agree with the verdict and think it was inevitable, but that is not to say that it doesn't make me feel a little sick that I'm sitting in the safety of my home looking at a man on tv who has just been told that he will hang in the next 60 days. It should never have been allowed to get this far, our governments should have stopped him decades ago, but instead they decided to sell him weapons, the area of accountability is a lot larger than it looks at first glance

There are probably many Iraqi Kurds who think this is the right decision and also many Shia Muslims, who also suffered under his Ba'ath party government.
The problem is that most Sunni Muslims (with the exception of the Kurds) would consider him as a martyr.
Execution is really not an option. Only God has the power of life and death, whether you're Muslim or Christian.
Life imprisonment would result in hostage taking to try to force his release.
He could succumb to a fatal heart attack, but after the death of Milosevic this might be a little suspicious.
I think this is known as being on the 'horns of a dilemma.'
The International community stood back when the Ba'ath Government gassed 5000 Kurds in Halabja. We are now paying the price.
When I say 'we', I mean the western world and the people of Iraq.
Whatever happened to forward thinking? From A to Z the attack on Iraq has been a total disaster.

I'm surprised it even got as far as the trial and verdict. I felt sure with all the delays and what-have-you this would go on for years and by the time they got anywhere with it, Saddam would have died in custody of old age. He's not in the best of health - I believe he was born about 1928 which makes him not far off his 70th birthday, which frankly for that part of the world is pretty high, thanks to the services of French, German and Italian doctors while he was in power.
Unless the Iraqis go through with the execution real quick and don't allow multiple appeals, he could be on the Iraqi version of "Death Row" for the next decade meaning that the chance of the sentence actually being carried out are ridiculously remote. I wouldn't be surprised if when it comes to the night before the exeution date itself that he does what Himmler or Goering did, and manage to sneak in some kind of cynanide capsule inside his cell and use it on himself and still end up cheating justice.
I don't know why they even bothered. The whole thing will turn into a farce. Mark my words.

No, tyranny is a good thing if it takes you out of the dark ages.
You think suddam's bad. Stalin killed 7 million of his own. The Chinese killed more.
The one thing people forget is that it's people like suddam who take Iraq from being the Sh*t hole that it is, and turning it into paradise. So what if a few thousand die in the process? (oh look a person who says genocide is ok). WHAT YOU ARE FORGETTING IS THAT WHEN IRAQ BECOMES A PARADISE ALL THE INFIGHTING WILL STOP. This means that rather than 1000 dying a year from infighting, 3-5k die now, in 5 years time you are saving 1000 people a year. So who's the mass murderer's now. Sudam or you guys. You have won yourself a hollow victory.

Saddam Hussain had a terrible job to do and he did it the only way he knew how.... or was it the easiest way he knew how... those who opposed him were executed in cold blood.
BUT... you must remember that life in his country is not like living in the UK/US. People living there are quite willing to give their lives for what they believe in.. and if they do not believe in freedom and choice and living together in harmony then they will not do it...
Saddam has been removed from power so all those who opposed him should lay down their arms and join in the democratic process shouldn't they.... NO THEY BL**DY WEL WONT... they carry on in their seemingly pointless bitter rivalry. That is why the Americans and UK soldiers as well as other countrys armed forces are destined to remain there for the forseeable future.
Saddam Hussain was not the real culprit... the country he governed over is the problem. BUT he was harsh in his methods so now he has to pay.........
Personally I am not sure if it's such a good thing but I understand the human rights atrocities... but when you deal with people like this what can you do... He will have to be executed because if he had been freed there would be one almighty explosion in frustration in Iraq and things would become far worse....
Hanging though is barbaric... why not the lethal injection...
Let's hope Iraq will become safe before too long and our troops are allowed back home........ that is my concern...
Charlie Boy....

While I do symphatize with the victims, i don't know what good would it do if Saddam is killed. It certainly will not bring any any of those killed back nor would it make the suffering of their families any better. I'm sure that it would seem to be just to kill him just like he killed all those people but it also seems to easy on him. I think it would be better to let him live and make him atone for what he did, even if he doesn't want to. Let him make license plates in a maximum security prison without any chance of gaining his freedom again. Let him suffer the humiliation of knowing the fact that once he was a ruthless dictator and has been reduced to prisoner without chance to ever be free again. Maybe even provide the families of those he killed to see him in his humiliation. He will die out eventually, at least in his life there would be some litte atonement of humiliation.

There is no way to make that suffering right, He can die only once, The Iraqi did their best to do justice (how much influence there was from the west, will never be known)
I think its the best for them to close the chapter Saddam and carry on to try building up their country again

i do no longer % to sound impolite or offensive or something like that, in spite of the undeniable fact that it variety of sounds like a tragic end for Saddam. however i do no longer think murdering and torture is ethical or ideal, I do have faith that Iraq would have been headed in a semi-ideal way, notwithstanding if it wasn't in the direction of democracy. i think of that it somewhat is ironic that we are able to rapidly criticize and ostracize human beings immediately for such heinous crimes to an extremely intense degree, yet yet we don't do the comparable for human beings interior the previous. the final public of great international locations did no longer grow to be effectual via being susceptible and passive, no they had to flow out, salary wars and do extra "undesirable stuff." The Juliues Ceasar did no longer income ability and land only via sitting in Rome, and Genghis Khan unquestionably did no longer grow to be a historic discern via driving on his horse on my own. in spite of the undeniable fact that i do no longer % to justify Saddam's strikes, international locations do only no longer grow to be something via doing no longer something. there are a number of extra heinous human beings interior the previous who've completed much extra undesirable issues, yet no one seems to proportion any sympathy for those. The Aztecs have been somewhat thoroughly wiped out via the Spanish conquistadors, yet who's crying for them? i visit confess that Saddam did no longer take care of his human beings and others with variety and appreciate, and we actually can't make a real huge distinction between what we interior the western society deem user-friendly and those residing decrease than Saddam. there's a chinese language proverb that a frog residing in a properly is familiar with no longer something appropriate to the international exterior the properly because of the fact the frog can't even fathom approximately something it has in no way experienced itself in the previous. So gender roles would seem to place emphasis on adult males and much less ability for females, its their society and that's the way they have survived on, unfair because it may seem, in case you have been to take the frog exterior the properly, it does no longer comprehend what to do, comparable for the gender roles, the very stability and fabirc of their society turns into untangled and turns into chaotic. I digressed too lots, yet element is, international locations would desire to undergo intense variations with a view to grow to be effectual, and Saddam replaced into assisting Iraq, in extra of a egocentric way, however who in ability isn't egocentric?

does this now mean the same goes for GWB for crimes against the Iraqi people are they truly better off now many say they are much worse off and live in constant fear of bombing as for Saddam he should be made to spend the rest of his life in prison while earning a living to give money to the Iraqis I never understood the death penalty my daughter was murdered and I don't want her killer to die but spend many many years in jail so his suffering will go on and on as ours does once they are dead and gone they are free from suffering but those left behind must continue in the pain
