Because around the age of Thirty the responsibility gene kicks in & we realise that the only person we can rely on to look after us is ourselves. Then we start to get bogged down in domestic bliss with the whole Mortgage, Kids, Car payments thing.

I am older than that and my life is not monotonous. Perhaps you mean not as many things catch you off guard..?

In any case, I encourage you to make plans for things you will enjoy doing in the near or distant future, keep learning new things, and take some risks. That ought to keep you interested.

No-one's going to live your life if you don't. Get amongst it.

It happend and still happens to me. I'm 31 and lost in my life. I feel like I'm stuck in this and can't get out. My options are limited being married and all. If I want to be a good wife and a good professional I should bury my passion for life and anything that's new and challenging for ever.
I wish I knew what else is there for me. Having a kid? Will that save my day or bury me deeper.
What's is there for us 30-somethings??? Wish I could help you here but we are on the same boat I'm afraid..

Monotony is a state of mind which you choose. If you are bored at thirty you will be bored at 50. If you stay active the monotony will never come. And remember this--your entire life-- there is always someone 10 years older than you who wishes he was still your age. Enjoy it while you can!

Because you're 1: More concerned about your mortality, you aren't into risking life and limb as much, 2: You're probably bogged down with family 3: You're bored with all the jackassery you participated in in your 20s(Been there, done that). 4: You probably don't have as much energy as you did in your 20s 5: You've probably got more to lose, and are therefore more likely to choose securoty over adventure.

Time to find a new hobby. Might I suggest whitewater kayaking?

Your life is what you want it to be! the Big 30 is just another milestone but many of us think that we need to settle down...somehow, I think that you may just feel trapped by the current environment, age really does not matter, now 40 is the new 20....

Because you allow it to. You allow yourself to get stagnant in the same old routines and don't want to, or can't, break out of them.
Get out and do something new, or repeat something you haven't done in a long time rather than sit in front of the TV.
Learn something new, that's always a challenge.
