Isn't atomic number an indication of the number of protons and neutrons? The Atomic number is 13. Although a quick glance told me that the numbers of protons and electrons are both thirteen, thus matching the Atomic number, but the number of neutrons was 14. Hmmmmm. A neutron walked into a bar and asked for a beer. The neutron asked the bartend how much the beer would cost. The bartender said, "For you? No charge."

13 protons and 14 neutrons

the number of protons is always equal to the atomic number of the element. In Aluminium there are 13 protons as the atomic number is 13 (ofcourse it is also equal to the no. of electrons).

The number of neutrons depends on the isotopic form of aluminium. Most of the aluminium isotopes contain 14 neutrons.
Hence the average atomic weight of aluminium is 27
