The 318 in your Duster is a small block. On Chrysler engines, it's easy to determine a small or big block engine not only by the size, but the location of the distributor. On a small block, it's in the back behind the carb. On a big block Chrysler, the distributor is located on the front of the engine, diagonally installed from the passenger side of the block. I owned many small block and big block Chrysler products over the years including 3 Chargers, 2 Road Runners, a Fury, Monaco, Aspen R/T and a Sebring. Chevrolet engines are a little more difficult to determine the small block/big block status. Other that the fact of the huge valve covers on a 454, you'll have to rely on the engine numbers or the tag on the firewall and decode the numbers on the plate.

Small block engines tend to be smaller displacement and are designed to make their peak horsepower at higher rpm Big block engines have displacement on their side and make peak power at lower rpm. Most early trucks came equipped with larger engines so they could move heavier loads from idle more easily.
Low rpm power is commonly referred to as "Torque".
