Of course, we want what we do not have, because that is how we progress in life. If we get to a position and then become fully satisfied, there would be no more improvement. So, it is a human nature which has made him ambitious and progressive.
However, the same trait also causes a lot of harm. It can give rise to envy, jealousy, dishonesty and even crime. Desire is the root cause for all evil as well.
Why we are like this?-- may well be because we are slaves to our ego, which is never satisfied at the status-quo and all the time wants to have everything, own everything and rule supreme.

Curiosity. We have a sense of wonder about things we don't have. Once we have them & they lose their sparkle (novelty, excitement, unattainability) we take them for granted & they don't seem as wonderful anymore. It's sad. There's a saying "Familiarity breeds contempt." It happens with things & with people. You fall madly in love with someone. It's exciting, intoxicating. But perhaps five years later the sight of them lying next to you makes your teeth itch & you hate the way their nose whistles & you sometimes just wish they'd go away...You get used to things (& people) when you have them around all the time. They stop being special. Then you want something else, something new & different. Human nature I guess. But you can make an effort, when it comes to relationships. You can decide to make someone special & to work at it every day. You can decide not to toss in your partner for a newer model (because you have to realize that the shiny new person turning your head now will also turn into that partner you take for granted years down the road. So maybe you just want to stay single & always have new partners, but then you miss out on the deep love, companionship & friendship of a long-term relationship).
Anyway, I'm just babbling now & it's 5:19 a.m. & I'm tired & my shift is nearly over!
The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. But it isn't. Enjoy your own lawn and take good care of it!
Peace out!
:)

It is a common human nature. We are always dissatisfied with what do we have and we always aspire for the other things. The other side of teh fence is always greener.
We don't value the sunlight on a Sunny day but, we pray for the Sun on winter & cloudy days. This is normal. Don't worry. be happy with whatever you have.
Good luck!

It because we are controlled both by a biological and materialistic crave. The biological one is otherwise called the quality in us to eat more and produce more. The materialistic one is what your question implies. It is the desire to acquire wealth enormously. Enormously to such an extent to imprint our name permanently on the Forbes world's richest people magazine. Sort of 'owners pride and neighbours envy' drives people crazy in the world. No man feels content with what he wears, eats and lives and his desire to amass wealth to a himalayan height makes the world look so diminutive his eyes. Because the hunger in his eyes is larger than his hunger in stomach.

its all about what u r in life.. rich, poor, beautiful, ugly, fair, dark.. etc.. 'satisfaction' wil always be relative.. it depends on which segment u r in.. a poor guy wont even think about 'brands'.. but he derives his happiness from oher things.. but his happiness wud be equal , if not more than a richer person.. dat's d 'satisfacion' bit.. it even varies from person to person.. u may get tired of wat u have very fast, n lookng for a change alwaz.. depends how u look at it.. there r no rules, nor anythng good or bad about wanting what we dont have (after all, wat r dreams?)
