What you do affects others -- and they will make up whys for you. Why you do it affects yourself. Both are equally important.

It is possible to do the wrong thing for the right reasons and conversly the wright thing for the wrong reasons. Ultimately is up to the person who is making the judgement. However actions do seem to speak louder than words. Try the philosophy section as this is a philosophical question.

The motive, the subjective part I think. Why you do it.
You might help an old lady ,but in order to become "friends" with her and use the fact she trust you to steal her money, for example. And vice verso- you might kill a man, but because you wanted to defend your 3 years old baby or yourself from an attacking aggressive mad looking person....
That is why law is paying attention to the motives and drives.
If we're talking about sex- the motives reflect very strongly on what you do and how you do it. There's a difference if she's (or he) in your bed because she's drunk/wants to get smth from you and when that's because you excite her, she's crazy about you or loves you. You can feel the difference without being a psychic.

it depends on the situation. it really does. if u try and do something for someone and accidentally offend them, then yes, its the thought that counts. if its for something bigger, than it is deffinatly the outcome of those events that matters because it will have a major impact on the future of the planet/humanity. it all really depends on the situation.

Why you're doing it. Because it's the cause of what you're doing.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. --Albert Schweitzer
