Do you like for resturants to have shops attached or as part of the resturant? Or does it make you feel like they just want to sell you somthing?

it isn't any different than an airport selling gifts. When people travel they sometimes only stop to eat so some restaurants offer souveniers for sale. People often want a small gift to bring back from their trips. Often times local craft people have things in these places so people can purchase things that were made locally. I make jewelry and have had it in some of these places. It is a fast convenient gift to pick up. It is more expensive but so is convenience store food prices and things. It is all about making it convenient for people to buy the product and not have to shop around or find the local merchants on their own if they are in a hurry.

If it is a "nicer" place, it's good for the gift shop area to be away from the dining area, even if it's not in a separate building. Some places have a separate room.

There's a gift shop/area in a restaurant I really enjoy because it is right next to the door and it's really convenient to stop on the way out and see what they have.

We live in a large metropolitan area far away from family and longtime friends. Specialty foods that a restaurant serves and cookbooks make cool gifts for them.

i don't have a problem with it like the rainforest cafe its nice becuase after you eat you can buy a t-shirt or a cute gift to help you remember it, and i know many people wouldn't be happy if we took away there hooters t-shirts and mugs.

Of course they want to sell you something! That's the American way and what drives our economy.
