80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

Its surprising how many people believe the answer lies within oneself. Is this a sign of the individualistic times we live in? If so, its a sad reflection of the times because none of us are answers to our own questions. If so, websites like this or weblogs would not flourish as they do. But nowadays there is the illusion that self-validation is sufficient for some of the most important questions in life (look at Bush) and actions are taken in a directionless vacuum of short-term goals.

To experience days that are filled with love, joy, peace, kindness, creative inspiration, healing and mercy. These are the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is also your true nature. It is the creative vibration that creates the energy for all life. It is the force that vibrates the "string" in string theory. To progress each day on the path that has been illuminated for you by the Holy Spirit. Finally, to stay in harmony with this creative vibration. When you come to the end of this path you will welcomed home by the Holy Mother who will share with you unfathomable love, peace and kindness.”

Have you heard of Tantra ?
It is a set of half lost obscure texts etc. that explains more obscure things in even yet more abstruse manners.
People of totay seduce Tantra and good human beings by making this Tanatra thing an instrument like Sex Bible !
42 or 69 are marvels created by these selfish sex-seekers and seducers to take advantage of simple and gullible people and loot them of their money, sex and if they can then "everything".
That is your answer for 42.
The answer to your "42" question is given in a book on "Tantrl" printed by i believe another swindler - narayan datt shrimali.
It is available for under Rs. 150 (Less than Us $ 3.50) in India on book stalls on major railway stations or any major book stalls in big cities of india. So if you are willing to spend $ 3.50 you will get answers to this and all such questions from that book.
Any popular book available on "Tantra" (usually for under us $6.00) has answers to all such questions. If you read such a book you will know answers to all such questions yourself. No need for any other persson to answer your questions if only once you spend $ 6.00 !!
All the best in your search for answers.
Especially ones whose answers are givne in today's cheap contemporary tantra books by swindlers, people who do mesmerisms and hypnotisms.
Grow up above questions related to 42 !

This question never ceases to make me laugh...the meaning of life is what YOU make of it. You have to go on your own journey, find out for yourself.
No one person can truly define the meaning of life for all of us, although there are people who think they can. It's all for you to decide.
Throughout history people have been trying to find out the meaning of life, and all in all it's puzzled the human mind for centuries. But the real answer lies within yourself...
