No, the White Sox were nicknamed the Black Sox during the scandal in the 1919 World Series, and like he said watch Eight Men Out it's a great movie and can tell you alot more.

If you ever get the chance..watch the movie "Eight Men Out" which is about the 1919 White Sox and their throwing of the WS. IMO..one of the best Baseball/sport movies of all time.

the movie "eight men out" is based on the perspective of 'shoeless' joe jackson, who had a spectacular series, at the plate and in the field, but who was banned from pro ball after the whitesox thre the series in 1919; suppoedly for money- but as much for spite, against old man comiskey who didnt pay his players worth a crap, its a great movie and explains the "black sox" moniker beautifully.

the were cald that in 1919 because of what the white soxs did!! most of the players including shoeless joe jackson got money from the other team for loosing and all of the fans HATED that so thats how they got that name!!
