So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

I do believe somewhere there is life, living somewhat like us.
When you think about it, do you really think were alone in this large universe which we can't even fully explore?

Maybe right now at this moment, other people, on another planet are wondering the same, and wondering if life other then their planet exists. one day we'll know..
maybe some people do know the answer to that but are hiding it, maybe there is aliens that go to area 51, we'll eventually know one day ;]

The universe is way too large to rule out life on other planets. It is very likely that there are. Our galaxy isn't the oldest galaxy and there could be other galaxies that have lifeforms on there that are billions of years ahead of our time.

Though like you, me too believe in life in another planet but as both us know no such solid evidence has came out till now which makes others to believe it. From the centuries the debate is same; a large percentage of the humankind believes it and the rest does not. But i don,t think any debate or any discussion in this yahoo answer will help to find the fact. Because fact is fact it can not be changed by your or my belief. If we could journey to another planet and remotely view them and see them destroying themselves would you live like them, I very much doubt extraterrestrial life would want to live like us, we don't set a very good example do we now.

I think That life exists but maybe parallels our rate of technology. If not they me so advanced that the reason we don't know for sure would be that living with us would be equal to us wanting to live with chimps.
