It is very, very difficult to get everything done in the time that we have been alloted to do so, which is typically 8 hours.

So with that said, for me personally......I work several additional hours everyday for many weeks and sometimes that is just to stay ahead of the game, still doesn't mean I am getting everything done. There is still lots of follow up on things.

I have to prioritize my work the night before for the next day and sometimes that doesn't work, because the next day might present fires that need immediate attention, which means my night before prioritizing just went out the window.

After fighting the struggle day after day, sometimes I just say to myself, "self, you are only one person and you can only do so much and what you do not do today/night, will be sitting right here, waiting for you tomorrow." With that said.....I pack up my stuff and go home and try to tackle it all over again and then some, the next day.

It is possible to complete your duties within the time alloted for work.

It's called time managment. There are some excellent books on the market (and library) that I suggest you read. Sometimes it's about prioritizing your workload or maybe you need to get some control over the distractions of your co-workers & environment.

Also you need to come to work with 100% of your attention on your job. Leave the personal phone calls for your lunch break and be totally at work. And focus on cutting back on the "water cooler breaks" and other distractions you're allowing yourself.

By staying late, you're sending the message to your family they are not important. And you're telling your employer that you aren't a good time manager and shouldn't be considered for promotion or more responsibility.

Get those books and become empowered over your own life...
