Most bone fractures cause damage to the surrounding tissues.. this tissue usually will swell in the first 24-36 hours. ... If the cast makes you toes numb or turn blue, cut a slit in it to relieve the pressure as it may be cutting off the circulation to your foot...if you are unable to do this, go to the ER.

The ankle isn't a bone, it's a joint. The ankle is consists of 3 bones; lower ends of the tibia and fibula, and the talus, the highest tarsal bone. In lamer terms the talus is considered the 'ankle bone.'

If your ankle is swollen, it means that you probaly tore a ligament, and it's very painful. It's very rare to actually break a bone in that area unless you've been struck by a strong blunt force. Most ankle injuries are sprains, where the ankle bends in the opposite way.

In your case, you tore one of your 3 ligamnets down there.

that could be a problem. it is possible that they didn't set your ankle right when they put it in the cast. or that it slipped after you have been in the cast a while.
you should go and have it xrayed to make sure it isn't broken ....again.
