VJ day was August 15, 1945
VE day was May 8, 1945

So it was over in Europe on VE(Victory Europe) day...
But the war was still going on in the Pacific officially until VJ(Victory Japan) day, although there were still fighting going on afterwards by pockets of isolated Japanese soldiers.

Germany and Italy surrendered on May 7, 1945. The war with Germany ended on May 8, 1945. This day was called V-E Day. V-E meant "victory in Europe." The war with Japan ended on August 15, 1945. This day was called V-J Day. V-J meant "victory in Japan."

May 8, 1945 ended war in Europe, August 15 , 1945 ended WW11. VJ day was August 15, when the allies officially accepted the surrender of Japan.

Aug. 9 1945 -- second A-bomb on Nagasaki

these essentially led to the end of WWII because the loss of life was tremendous and the axis powers didn't have the technology to compete. It also was essentially the beginning of the Cold War.
