Provided help. Maybe.

But that's after conquering, oppessing and enslaving the populations for centuries. Just because Wales, Scotland and Ireland eventually lost to the conquerors....

Anyway, some people have long memories, and look at all that has happened, not just what happened recently.

It's the same with any group that has rivalries and conflict going back centuries. Some won't let go of the past, and some will.

You can't forget the past. Especially if the similar events are still happening here in the present. eg After the national vote on television asking whether the uk should be rid of the monarchy it had a suprising result in the countries other than England. Votes for the monarchy to stay were just above 50 percent overall in Wales and in Scotland ALL regions were for ditching the Royal family. Just after this shock vote the government appointed parliaments in the separate nations as part of their Devolution plan. The nations iniatially seen this as a joke. The first order of business in the new Scottish parliament (which had no building at the time) was organising more pay and holidays for the MSP's. The word 'Devolution' itself has been taken as an insult by many as it implies they are less evolved nations than England. They are not as powerful, although some don't see that, but it is still seen by many as a quick way of keeping the Celtic people quiet from looking toward full independence. There's not much need to go into the Northern Irish hatred, they simply want all of Ireland to gain independence. The Scottish are gradually moving in the same direction recently and blame England for slowing them down. The Irish back them knowing that if they get independence so will the Northern Irish. Wales are not as 'anti-English' as their Celtic brothers but their numbers may grow if their new parliament doesn't start working properly :-) . Theres a lot of issues in Scotland at the moment especially about independence running up to the Scottish Parliament Elections. One being that if SNP win we may see and independent Scotland in the near future. A lot of people are looking forward to this so are on edge, knowing that if SNP win it will be a one way trip to freedom, and blaming English for slowing this move down even. A lot of the people hate because of hear say and facts with no proof behind them. It is claimed that Scotland uses more money than it produces and people don't want them to break the union because of that. Most of the hatred is from the less educated people and ignorant who don't fully understand but some is from the smarter people who know that Scotland pretty much lays claim to the North Sea Oils and north west Atlantic. There are a lot of unknowns that may never be found out unless independence comesincluding who has claims to the Pound. It was first created in England by a Scot so who gets to keep it? A lot of racism is from trivial things such as being forced to watch television with a bias toward the English (especially in football :-)) or due to a minor number of ignorant foreigners who think that the UK IS England and that Wales is IN England. It sounds stupid but its annoying when the rest of the world doesnt really understand where exactly you are from or what your country is like. Especially in this day and age when we communicate internationally so much. Enough of this rant I thought I could just maybe help some people understand it all a little better.
