You are supposed to ask for a new one, but for me it really depends on how hungry I am, because getting a new one may take awhile.

even though Ms. Manners says never to pick up a dropped utensil I do pick it up wipe it off and continue with my meal. It is what I am eating that is harmful to my health not the little bit of dirt that might have gotten on a dropped fork.

I'm a germ freak, so I have to ask for another one. I also check the silverware I use before I eat, because I had a bad incident once with unclean silverware. I'm cautious about the germs, lol.

Ask for a new one. What if someone tracked in dog doo and your fork landed in it?

I don't wipe it off and use it, and I don't ask for a new one. I run over to the table next to me, and steal theirs.
