For me, it's my body and my intellect.

I find it easy to protect them rather than share them with the world.

Outwardly, I'm modest about everything. Inwardly, I know what I'm good at and I take pride in it...but it doesn't matter to me if others know it or realize it, so I don't go around saying "look at me! look at me!"

I was taught humility as a child, but I often do take it too far. Being too modest or nice, as it were. The two points you mention are ones I agree with, but I would add my writing to the list. I write poems, but hesitate to share them. I often feel that I am fishing for compliments if I do so, which isn't the case at all. Just a weird modesty thing.

I don't think that I'm modest, but everyone tells me that I am. Which is really anoying.
I value my inteligence, and try not to flaunt it. I love my words and I like to share them with people, but I try to keep it as low-key as possible and refuse profuse compliments, saying "it's nothing special" because it isn't. Anyone can string a sentance together (well, maybe not some of the "13 or older" people who visit Yahoo! Answers).

I find it very interesting that you say modesty equals protection for you maybe being modest means this to you but the true meaning of being modest is not overating ones qualities or acheivements

I am modest in regards to my body... somewhere along the line I internalized a bunch of social mores more akin to my great-grandmother's generation. Maybe it's because I'm not comfortable with comments about my size and shape. Sometimes compliments are harder to deal with than criticism.

Very interesting question....

Actually modesty if a virtue in my book...and I would be glad if the younger generation would practice a little.

....as I get older, I am definately more modest about my body, but a little bolder about my intellect.

Try not to be too much of a showoff,it attracts people who are jealous and then I become their target.
True self always shows through sooner or later..
