How do you know if you sing well?

I really like to sing but then i don't know if i sing well or not. My friends said I did sing very well. But i think maybe they are just trying to comfort me. What should i do to really know if I sing well or not? >< Help is appreciated =)

Tape yourself singing and then listen back to it. Better yet, have someone else besides your friends listen to it as well. You need to have an outside opinion (other than people who know you) to be completely honest with you. If you are in school, ask a music teacher.

Get a good digital recording of yourself singing, upload it to a filehosting site and link it in a question here on Yahoo answers. People tend to be much more to the point about what they think online than they are in person.

Also, I'd suggest you find a voice teacher and see what he/she thinks of your voice.

im a singer/songwriter/guitarist. and i never knew how bad i sounded until i recorded myself on this cheap little 30 dollar tape recorder.....you cant hear yourself sing while your singing. you really have to separate yourself completely and listen to a recording of yourself. thats the only way. i realized i was singing waaaay too low and i was singing nasaly. i had no clue when it was just me with my guitar....hope this helps

I know I sing well because people have told me. Ask for honest opinions... from strangers... they won't care if they hurt your feelings.

Go to a Karaoke bar in another town.

Ask somone that has no ties to you because they are more likely to give you an honest answer
