I don't want to know the atomic mass of gold. I want to know, if in life in general, is gold considered heavy?

Gold belongs to the noble metal family (not heavy metal).

Gold is heavy amongst other elements, although not the heaviest, as other platinum groups metals such as Pt, Ir, Os are heavier than gold.

But in daily definition of heavy, yes, gold is very heavy, NOT so much to do with the atomic mass though.

No direct relation between atomic mass and density. Many other factors have to be taken into account, e.g. crystal structure, etc.

Gold is considered a heavy metal. Generally compounds are considered more on their relative densities. Gold is quite dense and it does have a large atomic mass. So overall gold would be considered heavy.

Hmm.. you've got me thinking.

I remember a trick question from when I was young that went something like this.. which is heavier a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? they are the same, each is a pound.

If I carry a gold coin, it is not heavy to me. However, if I were to compare gold this way..

The average weight of a man in 2002 was 191 pounds in the U.S.

191 pounds of gold would be valued at approximately:
US $ 1,724,225.76

That sure sounds like a lot to me.. I'd say gold is heavy :-)

Gold is conidered very heavy. The normal gold bar that banks hold and you normally see in movies such as The Italian Job weighs 12.5 kg which is roughly equal to 27.5 lbs. Very heavy for such a small bar.

Heavier than lead, I think.
When you see one of those gold bars about half-to-3/4 the size of a football, well, I think very few people could pick one up with one hand.
