It goes beyond mere words how lame it is. It shows extreme conceit on the part of the producers that they think they can jerk people around with the late season 3 start when EVERY OTHER important show found a way to kick off their new season in September. Then if that wasn't bad enough, they decide a three month vacation is needed coming off a five month layoff. Finally, it's not like we have seen anything in season three that has been worth the wait. The episodes have mostly been borderline at best (i.e. John in the sweatlodge, Eko & the black smoke, YAWN), we still haven't learned anything really important that wasn't already known. As much as I like the show, I sort of hope it comes back to bite the producers in the *** in the form of decreased ratings.

I have known about this since the end of season 2/summer of 2006. LOST is doing this to lure their audience. They hope that this will boost ratings when the May sweeps come around at the end of the season. Don't worry, LOST will return in February 2007 with all new episodes airring every week until the season finale in May. I kinda prefer it this way, because I get disappointed when there are repeats, but at least this way, I can sort of take a break for 2-3 months during the hour of LOST and do something else. I have read that people/critics are skeptical of this method, if it will work and they have said that this is a risky move. LOST does promise to go out w/a bang next week to keep its audience wondering A LOT and to ensure that they will return in February. ABC will heavily advertise the return of the show about a month before the show starts up to remind the audience to come back.

A big part of the reason was because fans complained that there were too many re-runs and re-packaged specials on the last season. You never knew when a new episode was coming.
So this season they are more like 24 .... show a bunch of new epi's in a row, show less repeats. Then stop. They will fill time with mid-season replacements like DayBreak. Then they come back in Feb. to show more new episodes through May. They will probably have another review show before they kick back in on February, so you can catch up. If you really are worried about forgetting what has happened, find episode guides online.
Expect a major bomb to be dropped in the middle of Year 3.
If you want to see a cute Yah00 Map of the island on Lost, go to www.cafepress.com/pinksection It's got the location of the hatches, where the plane landed and where the camps are, and of course the polar bears.

I don't know what's up with that, but it drives me crazy ! I lose track of all the characters and can't keep the story line straight for that long - especially when they play so many repeat episodes in between - that really messes things up!!!

i totally agree with you that is soooooooo lame. i wish that they would show reruns of the first two seasons or some thing. who cares if tye diggs can fire a gun? who care about groundhog day with hot chiks, bad guys, and ak-47s? we would much rather have poloar bears eat benry, fenry or waht ever you want to call mr. linnus.
