Is anyone familar with the Black Soroites Sterotypes...the reason I ask, is because I've been to a few greek events and I notice that AKA's or Alpha Kappa Alpha's are always eyeing me down, or they'll come up to me and speak..and none of the other one's tend to do that...Do AKA 's tend to gravitate towards a certain type of person?

Hello,

I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I am fully aware of the stereotypes that surround all of the african american greek letter organizations. I am a dark-skinned member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Personally, I think that it is just as unlikely that all of my sorors fit into that small state of mind as it is impossible to assume that all black are criminals. My sorority as well as the other sororities mentioned by another answerer were all founded on principles that would allow us to contribute to the world around us, now, are there any members of the organizations that would fit into the stereotypes....of course there are. No matter what you could come up with I am sure that you can find a member of any organization to fit it.....but it is unfair to say that we all fit into any particular mold.

Perhaps the sorors who are watching you and who speak to you think that you would be a good fit into the sorority....it does not have to mean something negative......perhaps you should consider that.

I don't think that there is one or two types of people that we tend to associate ourselves with. That would be nearly impossible. There are nearly 200,000 of us worldwide. I know plenty of sorors who socialize with people from every walk of life. Greek and non-greek. We like anyone else gravitate towards the people who we think we can be friends with...and if RUSH is coming up soon at your school, there is a huge possibility that they are interested in you as a candidate for membership.

Don't be so quick to lean towards the negative......things are not always what they seem!

Best wishes to you!!!!!

The "rush" application that i think you're pertaining to is for the Panhellenic convention. those have not got something to do with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority or the different NPHC sorority. because of the fact the member in the previous me suggested verify the national website for extra training. i'm a splash shocked however which you claimed to have completed lots study yet yet you do no longer understand this extremely basic and undemanding technique. the college's community financial disaster will carry a gathering called RUSH at their discretion. it ought to be any time throughout the time of the twelve months, it ought to be another twelve months, or it ought to be each 2 years. It varies fairly depending on while the financial disaster desires to herald new individuals and has the suited flow-aheads from the college and sorority. ideal in the previous this assembly happens, fliers would be placed around college indicating it. you will detect particularly some training on the push by their national website or perhaps basically a yahoo solutions or google seek. this question has been replied distinctive situations. Congrats on graduating from intense college and stable success in college :-)

I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Soroity Inc. They maybe looking at you because they may feel like you have something to offer the organization. They may see you doing alot of community service or supporting them with their community service. They may think that you are interested in knowing more about the organization. It can be many positive reasons. I do not agree with what Dee said. I am dark-skinned AKA and our organization has women of different beautiful shades. So don't think that is the reason, because it's not.

AKA's tend to be the "light-skinned" black girls and they look down dark-skinned black girls.

DST (deltas) tend to be the "dark skinned" black girls and they look down on the light-skinned black girls.

ZPhiB (zetas) tend to be the plus size girls and look down on the skinny chicks and are looked down upon by the skinny chicks.

SGRho tend to be really smart and looked down on anybody with a GPA less than 3.8.

Now, on some sororities this may be completely reversed, but it held true for both campuses I've attend school at.
