Will western civilization fall into chaos if it's uncontrolled?

Welfare is essentially gone. Abortion and contraceptives are options. Investing in sex education could prove to be helpful. And the best part is we're still free.

Aren't conservatives amazing?

They're against "Big Government" but want to have religious nutcases like Jerry Falwell or Ted Haggard make all your personal and medical decisions for you (no abortion, no stem-cell research, no pre-marital sex, no gay marriage, no gambling, no sex education, no Plan B or other contraceptives, etc.). I was gonna say "no drugs" but Haggard blew that one.

It can cost taxpayers money, for added welfare for single mothers, prisons for children brought up without the guidance of both parents, etc, that could be better spent towards more socially uplifting endeavors.

EDIT:
While the welfare reform legislation of 1996, which was reauthorized this year, has helped to cut the number of single mothers on welfare in half, welfare is still here. I don't think I should have to pay for a child because their parents made bad life choices. And with well over a million people still claiming their check every month, I don't consider it "essentially gone."

You also talk about abortion as if it is OK to have one as a form of contraception. I understand that it is the woman's choice, and I can tolerate that, but only in cases of rape or life and death situations.

I do agree that sex education needs to stress the use of contraceptives. It wouldn't hurt to discuss abstinence too. It is naive to think teens will not find a way to have sex, but it doesn't hurt to tell them to wait either.

Underlying this question is the unstated assumption that sex outside of marriage is increasing. I know every generation wants to think that they were the first generation to discover sex, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but people have screwed around outside of marriage pretty much as long as the human race has been around.

Marriage is still a strong institution, and won't be disappearing soon. Family, though having undergone a shift in definition to beocme more inclusive, is still a strong societal institution.

Don't panic. Take a moment to breathe and realize that things are not nearly as dire as people want to claim.

unrestained sex and social order...

i guess there concerns over commitment to families and to social roles in a family unit.

illigitimate children is a serious issue.
the women that have the children without a commitment from their loved ones are destined to suffer. if over quarter of the u.s. live births are like this, its problematic.

then there is the question of disease such as with HIV in Africa. the sexual practices in some of the countries there have decimated the population and caused severe distubances in the social order. high populations of orphans and the like.

it may have an effect on the youth, such things like youth engaging in acts at a very early age with peers or elders may be considered a problem that may produce aberrant psychologies later.

adultery undermines marriage and common law relationships, etc.

It threatens the social order simply because it is unrestrained. Civilization was built on dos and don'ts. Restraining sexual urges was one of the dos. I am not sure how our cave ancestors learned it was benificial to be restrained about sexual urges, but one can immagine it had something to do with preservation and advancement.
