Is this a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship or a marital relationship? I guess either case is fragile but if it is marital it may be more so than not. If it is a spouse the break up must be handled with care. Try not to hurt the other one too bad by saying spiteful or mean things to them. If it's just a BF/GF thing....be gentle but don't worry to much about it. Just don't talk to them. If they call just say, sorry, I can't talk or I don't want to talk. If they come over be on your way out the door...eventually the person will get over it and get on with life.

Does the other person know your broken up? Sounds silly sure but I knew a lady who just tried distancing herself from a relationship without really telling the other person they were seperating. When she started seeing other people, her ex confronted her and she just had to tell him they were broken up and he seemed a little surprised. Unless this person is detrimental to your well being, you will just have to give them time to move on. By being consistent, and not flip flopping, by sleeping with them because you are lonely, then they will eventually move on and find someone new.

Completely ignore him. If he's drinking and driving let the cops handle him.

It's not supid. I am in the same situation, I will tell you what they told me. "You can't regret what once made you happy." It means you can't feel sorry for something you once had. You have to learn to let go. I still haven't, but everyone needs to learn eventualy.

Be firm. Don't talk to the person at all. Don't call them or accept calls from them. Don't let others give you messages from them.
