That's a hybrid sentence: "does nothing" plus "can do nothing" equals "can does nothing."

Theres loads but I'd say Temple of Love by Sisters of Mercy or Pale Empress by Merry Thoughts.
Other songs like Night time by Suspiria.

This is a deceptively difficult question. the ultimate, ever?

My vote goes to Dead Souls- originally by Joy Division. They're the band that resulted in the term "gothic" being applied to modern music in the first place- and this is perhaps their darkest song. Of course it had lasting influence as a result of being remade by NIN for the Crow soundtrack- two generations of goth in one song!

Honorable mentions:
Bela Lugosi's Dead, for humor and nostalgia value although I will roll my eyes at it with everyone else.

So it's technically metal: Planet hell by Nightwish- acknowledging the fact that goth has become something totally other than what it originally was, especially in Europe. Plus this song really makes you think of darker themes in art, religion, and literature. It might be a good song to sack Rome to, even.

So it's technically industrial: Kingdom by VNV Nation. It's a wonderful anthem calling for hope despite an overwhelming urge to despair which makes literary references, and blasphemes gently.

Well, you could go with the old standby "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus, but I'd go with either "Lucretia My Reflection" by Sisters of Mercy or "Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie & the Banshees.

Ministry's "Every Day is Halloween" is always a good anthem, and it gets people out on the dance floor.
