Is this normal? He got rid of all the pews, and now we sit at our own desks with ink wells and our names on them. I don't mind this so much, but I dread the monthly progress reports.

He gives you "timeout" at church?! Okay, my husband is a preacher and I have been raised going to church and have never heard of something like that or using desks. I can see how desks might be nice. Though it is a little unheard of, I don't really think I would have a real problem with that. People should try to pay attention but I agree that there are certain times (like progress reports) when I don't think we have to be as alert as other times. Just so you know, I sympathize with you.

If you're on the level, which I doubt, you need to find another church.
