I would say yes. I probably would die of a heart attack, but it was my dream when I was just a kid to go to the moon. What makes you think the Saturn V is any safer than the Space Shuttle? They only had a few missions with the Saturn V, and Appolo, and had 3 deaths. Space Shuttle has had hundreds of missions, and not much more than 3 deaths comparing the programs. The Space Shuttle has problems, but it's largely successful. The original astronauts were test pilots, which was very dangerous work. If they saw back then in the 60's how many times the Shuttle went up, and landed without a crash, they would be amazed, and probably wouldn't want to be Astronauts. Why do people see the negative in things, and not the success? People only see when things go wrong, and when things go right. People wonder "What went wrong?", but they never wonder "What went right?".

I'd hesitate for three heartbeats, and then sign an absolute YES!
And then I'd start thinking - What could I do on the Moon that three hundred pounds of equipment wouldn't do better? Would one little rover, or some science packet, be of more help than what could only amount to the presence of a cosmic tourist.
Perhaps if I want to go to the moon, I should try make it a place worth going to, and not just as some curio in the history books.
Fourteen men have been on the moon - can you name them all? Tourists have visited space, to you remember any of them? Hell, who was the SECOND man to discover America? History isn't all that kind when it comes to those kinds of memories.,...
If it took years, I could study and make myself a crude imitation of the sort of Right Stuff needed to make the Moon a place that could be reached without a need for explorative drama... or even harsh pioneering. There won't be any 'forty acres and a mule' homesteading on that frontier. Maybe I could send something in my place to make that day come all the sooner.
Maybe I'd just send an acorn, a vial of sea water, and a few DNA scrapings, just in case it was found by someone and looked upon as a means of improving some sterile void... anyplace.
You guys go on ahead... but bring me back a rock, okay? For turning down a billion-dollar seat, and an asterisk in the history books, I deserve a rock.

I would sure love to try!! I'll never forget seeing Apollo 13 in the movie theater, and just about dying of excitement at the takeoff. My kids were a little scared of me, I think! LOL. Oh, but what a dream!
