Hindsight is 20/20 ONLY if you learned your lesson the first time. If you make the same mistakes over and over again, then your hindsight ain't worth a plug-nickel!

Only if we actually understand and learn from what happened in the past is our hindsight 20/20. Some folks seem never to learn from their experience and keep making the same mistakes over again.

So, no, hindsight isn't ALWAYS 20/20.

It seems so at the time! But there's always hindsight about the hindsight, so you can't ever be one hundred percent sure you've got the distance to see things just right. I first learned about this from philosopher Bernard Williams, in his book on Moral Luck, Cambridge 1981, but it's pretty easy to see the point on your own. Suppose you do something that seems good at the time, and then in hindsight, it looks like it was the wrong decision. Five years later you might look back at it and say, with further hindsight, "well, you know, it wasn't such a bad thing after all." But ten years later ... and so on.

No, hindsight is not always 20/20, simply because there are people who NEVER learn from their past, so how could they possibly see the past in pure clarify if they never take steps to make their present and future better.

No, it is not always 20/20. However, ultimately, yes, it is. That may take many, many years to get to, though - and require many hindsight experiences.

There is nothing unusual. After all it is hindsight and not eye sight.
