My Favorite:
Real Women Have Curves - with America Farrera (Ugly Betty) it was her first film as is so funny/sweet/inspiring
Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City), you won't believe how young she is. Also with Helen Hunt who is a riot! Also very fun if you love retro-80s and Dancing
Pride & Prejudice (BBC Mini-Series) - Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, come on ladies, you know you love all 5 hours of it!!!
If you like the more tear-jerker/historical kind of thing:
Paradise Road - Glen Close, Julianna Marguilles, Frances McDormand, Cate Blanchett is an amazing film with really strong performances from all.
Also:
Interview with the Vampire - although I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, it also has Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst in an amazing performance for a child her age.
Finding Neverland - with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslett is priceless.

I recommend two films for you and your girlfriend, these movies will bring you together closer and will give you thinking thoughts about your relationship. You will also like it because of the plot and story. The first is "A Walk to Remember", starring Mandy Moore and Shane West, two teen-agers who are very different from each other, but as you watch it you will see what made them loved each other. Its more on sweet romance for youths like us, but with an important lesson to remembered. Second is "The Original Sin", starring Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas. This movie is very different to "A Walk To Remember". It's the other side of love that when you see the movie at first you will never know that its about love. Both movie made me cry, which a lot of girls wants in the movie element. Us girls wants some movie that we can relate to and we can connect to our present relationships. You will also love it, especially the "The Original Sin", because of its suspense element and some passion scenes. It's a very excellent film, I can say that you will love it up to the end of it, plus the popular actors in the film, the hot Angelina Jolie. I hope you both would enjoy this two movies together.

13 Going On 30 was good, and my boyfriend liked it too. This is especially great if you are a child of the 80's. Stars Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. About a 13-year old girl who wakes up and suddenly she is a 30-year old magazine executive.
Mean Girls was also good, and will give you an interesting look at the female psyche. It's more of a teen flick too though, so I guess you would have to like that type of movie. Stars Lindsey Lohan, Rachel McAdams, and a bunch of SNL stars as the teachers. About high school girls being, well, mean.
Spanglish was great, Adam Sandler trying a more serious role and doing a damn good job of it. The Latina actress Paz Vega was absolutely adorable too, I am sure you will enjoy watching her :-) It's hard to explain what this was about, I guess it's more about the characters and their relationships. Adam Sandler sort of falls in love with the live-in housekeeper while he's trying to work on issues in his marriage.
The Princess Bride - fabulous, and totally okay for guys too. Stars Robin Wright and Cary Elwes. It's a great action/adventure/comedy/romance flick.
The Wedding Singer - another Adam Sandler movie, very funny and also reminiscent of the 80's. About a wedding singer who falls in love with one of the brides he is working with, who is going to marry a jerk.
EDIT:
Oooh birgit, I forgot about Don Juan DiMarco! That's one of my all-time favorites. It's totally hot too. It stars Johnny Depp, who is convinced that he is Don Juan DiMarco - the fictional "world's greatest lover" from the olden days. Marlon Brando is his shrink, who is trying to cure him of his delusions but then he realizes, what's wrong with believing you're the world's greatest lover?

Here's an older one, but it's still great. Steel Magnolias Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Shirley MacLaine. Oh, and Tom Skerritt, who's hysterical in this one. The Bleedin' Armadillo cake scene and the firecracker-bird deterrent are side splitting, so guys should like some of it too.
