I believe our troops are performing their mission well they are securing the streets while providing humanitarian aide. I am not sure if I agree with the mission. I think that we are in a position much like Vietnam where are troops are not being allowed to win the war. I understand that we don't want to be inhumane but this is a war we are fighting - let them do whatever is necessary to win so they can come home.

YES! It is ineffective. Middle Easterns have been fighting over there for thousands of years, what does America think they can do to change that. Even if we were to win this particular war eventually some religous turmoil would start another one. If people hate each other they hate each other the only thing we could do to solve the problem completely is to nuke them off the face of the map, but that wouldn't be very nice or humane.

Leave those people alone. If they want to kill each other let them do it. Hopefully they will get tired of it sooner than later. We should have never gone over there in the first place. What did Iraq ever do to us other than try to steal our oil Interest in Kuwait.

I'm a big Isolationist at heart. Come back to America and close the borders. Don't let anyone in unless absolutely necessary. But that won't happen because we are too greedy.

Largely ineffective.

It's problem of trying to force a country to adopt a political and social mindset when the citizens of that country are not ready for it. Ignore that fact that they've been engaged in a bloody civil war (whether you call it that or not) for the past several years (or decades).

Simply look at the fact that over 20% of the population has either left the country or been killed in the past three years, and death tolls in the tens of thousands per month. That's equivalent to 60 million Americans being killed or fleeing, with another million per month. Given those conditions, how on earth can anyone hope to claim the country is going to be stable anytime soon?

Iraq and the vast majority of its population are simply not ready to have a united stable democracy. It's like trying to teach algebra to 2 year olds. It doesn't matter how good the teachers are if the student isn't capable of learning.

Dude, so many people just don't get it!

It's not that the troops are ineffective.

It's that the Iraqi resistance is VERY EFFECTIVE. They're great fighters, always have been. And if anyone, Russian, Iranian, Chinese, American, Mexican, comes to their land and tries to steal their oil and tries to make their women into sluts....

They will resist. It's also called 'The Indomitable Human Spirit'. :)

Dang I hate to mention English Grammar, English Grammar, English Grammar, but:

You said, " Is our troops....."

It should have been, Are our troops..."

Notice that troops is plural, and you use 'ARE' for a plural subject (troops).

There is not an effective way to use soldiers as policemen. They are standing targets, walking targets,
or vehicular passenger targets for an enemy who plants road side bombs, shoots from behind women and children, and utilizes sniper fire. Until the US Government moves our troops back into the soldiering mission, we are at a standstill, and will remain so. There is no definition of winning a "Police Action." You just do it.
So the answer to your question is: "I don't know."

Inaffective. Why?

Because we have a President and a Congress and a Defense Secretary ..... who have no idea what we are doing there now, what they are going to do, and what will they do. There is no plan, no strategy or real leadership. It's not our Military's fault, it's our governments fault and their refusal to admit mistakes or things they were and are wrong about only makes it worse for them, and the rest of America.

Foreign soldiers are considered occupying villains everywhere in the world. Just like it or not, the only effect they can have is negative.
