That's a tough one, usually once you find the culprit you can use an ammonia and water mixture to get rid of the smell of the dead animal but if you don't know where they are at, it makes it a little more difficult. I guess I would just keep spraying Oust throughout the house until whatever it is that died has totally decayed and then the smell will go away. I had that problem with mice, I couldn't find what was smelling so bad and I kept searching and searching for the smell but couldn't find it and then the smell went away but when I was spring cleaning I stumbled on a small flower vase and found a mouse carcass in the bottom of the vase...I threw the vase away and it's never smelled again. Good Luck...I know how bad it smells.

RE:
how to get rid of dead rats smell in the house?
There is a problem. there were rats around a house and they put out those packets with rat poison and the rats somehow dies somewhere and the smell is really strond inside the house. They took down two walls in the house where the smell was coming from but nothing there. Any suggestions as to what...

This problem will solve itself. When you put poison out to kill mice, or rats, they will croak all over. They go in your basement, attic, between walls, and everywhere else. Remove the ones you find, the rest will eventually stop stinking. They can only decompose so long. In the mean time, wear a nose clip. LOL. This is a good reason to use the mouse traps, they sell. The dead can always be removed.

Well, I personally would not stay in the house. Live rats are carriers of disease, (does Bubonic Plague mean anything to you?), and dead ones aren't any better.
If you are renting you probably could use that as a reason to break your lease. Call the health department.
