You can build a laptop, a used one that is, but laptop parts will cost you an arm and a leg, not to mention of the endless time to put them all together if you're not familiar with the job.
I would suggest to buy a used complete laptop. Depending on your purpose, sometimes a good Pentium 3 laptop will do just fine, and it runs between $200 - $300 now. I even have Pentium M core duo laptops that can sell for $650, they look and work just like new, many still have warranty. So... don't spend money on a new one that costs over $1000, a used one will do just fine for way less.
You may want to check out your local craigslist www.craigslist.org.
2nd best place will be eBay, prices on there are relatively competitive.

It will become very hard to find any parts to build a laptop its just not made that way you are better off going to a on-line computer place and ordering one.The web sites listed are one of the only ways to customize a laptop.

Well finding all the parts you are going to need to build your own laptop, will be very hard.
then you have the cost of those items $$$$.
Better to just buy one

stable success looking computing gadget aspects. maximum each place sells them prebuilt, or enables you to customize. besides, it does not get lots extra inexpensive than a netbook. (meanwhile, *computers* have particularly some aspects available, and it many times is extra inexpensive to construct your self.)
