It used to be a perfect way to keep the American people informed on the latest news ....now it is not even reporting anything but what the president and his goons want, I don't know exactly what happened you guys but if you report the truth to us now we will help you .I guess we were not paying attention but I think WE the people are realizing that we dropped the ball and expected you to cover our backs when we did not cover yours. We are so sorry. We must have a free press to continue to be free .. We were stupid ans now it will be twice as hard to get the freedoms back that Bush and his goon-squad have stolen from us . But we WILL do it . This once great nation will rise above the lies and terrors that Mr bush has tried in vain to blame on Iraq, We will not give our country over to anyone but a new president we honestly elect. You cheaters do not get another chance. We are using the old ballot way of voting on the 7th writing it out on paper and letting our precincts tally and post the winners in public. Sorry about your luck we do not want any more cheating going on..........and we feel that anyone protesting the ballot voting must be a cheater. So go ahead commit political suicide, object.

Television doesn't have a "role" but it has a purpose -- to sell things the advertisers demonstrate during the commercials. TV exists to sell things visually.

Society?! Margaret Thatcher said, "There is no such thing as society," but let's pretend she was wrong. As a parasite on art ("Imitation is the sincerest form of television" --radio comedian Fred Allen), television's role is to appear personable and friendly, while giving convenient moving images to the home and a sort of ersatz companionship.

What TV does best? Election night coverage and major sports. What TV does worst -- serious drama and coverage of complex issues.

Television.....to inform, to entertain.
But, I will also say that it serves as an outlet for the station owners/producers to make a statement on what they believe is right or wrong, as they ultimately have the choice as to whether or not let a particualr program/movie air.....if they like it and its message, they'll put it out......if they don't they won't. For example, you probably won't see a liberal station owner allowing conservative movies and a conservative station owner allowing liberal movies. In this regard, television is very powerful and whomever has ownership has power.
