If the game is just for the two of them, I would recommend Lost Cities.
If the game is for the two of them, but they might play it with more players, I would recommend Ticket to Ride or Carcassonne.
You can find a whole plethora of boardgames for all types at http://www.boardgamegeek.com.

Caesar and Cleopatra by Kosmos. Each player tries to win over Roman nobility (Patricians) by playing different valued cards on each category of noblemen. Players also have the option of playing special actions which effect the game in various ways (playing an Assassin card allows a player to remove an opponent's card from a category). Then a random card draw determines which category will be scored for that round. The player with the highest value for that category (usually) wins that noble's influence.
I've provided links to Funagain Games and Board Game Geek, both excellent resources for all your gaming needs.
Happy Gaming!

Pictionary is fun - works better with 4 people but two can still have fun.
Snatch - a game similar to Scrabble but Snatch is fast-paced, fun and funny.
Name that Tune - can work for two people.
But my choice would be any of the Pop Culture DVD Trivial Pursuits.
