Try "Wuthering Heights" (Emily Bronte) and "Jane Eyre" (Charlotte Bronte). They were written by teenage girls, and whilst they're seen as literary masterpieces nowadays, they were the teen romances of their day. They're easy to read (the language is clear and easy to understand), easy to get into, and whilst Jane Eyre can be a bit more like a traditional stereotype romance, it does have some surprises, and the lead character does have a bit more backbone and strength than you'll find in most romances. Wuthering Heights is a one-off! Very romantic, lots of forces of nature, destiny, cruelty, and finally resolution. It even has a ghost! I'd have to recommend these two to you, and I bet you won't be able to put them down once you start reading. Lots more depth, great characters, and brilliant stories. After all, the Bronte sisters were the sexually frustrated daughters of a clergyman in a tiny village in the middle of the Yorkshire Moors. Not much chance for action there, so their vivid imaginations came up with these romances out of all that yearning and desire for romance and excitement. Enjoy!!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is an awesome book! It is kinda a fantasy book (w/ vampires), so it is different from the normal teen romance w/ the high school crush problems. It is a deep story about the value of love, about how the person who truly loves you won't hate you because of sterotypes, and it has a lot of suspense that makes you want to read on and on...and even read it over again once you're finished! It's also about the beauty within and how although you may not think highly of yourself, another person can think that you are the most beautiful thing that has come into his or her life. The vampire thing just adds special twists and conflicts that no "everyday teen drama" book can give you. Read it! You'll LOVE IT!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is great. I love that book actually. But I would also recommend any of the books written by Sarah Dessen. Her books, in my opinion, are clear of 'fake drama' and shallowness. While her books have characters that have problems, the characters are so well-developed, so fleshed out so to speak that it just seems right. And the romance is good too.

Try some of the Point Romance fiction, it's not all great but some of them are good.

If you can get your hands on Liz Berry's books, Mel, China Garden, Easy Freedom, Easy Connections and the Janey series then try these as they are brilliantly written by a writer that doesn't treat young adults like children.
