I wonder, they have every song available. How do they get them? By buying the usual CDs like we do.. or for free.

radio stations traditionally had a hard copy (record, tape, cd) of the songs, and they belong to AASCAP (- the association that makes sure artists get paid for their work being played, etc - it costs money to be a member of this group, and legally, to play music on the radio, or at your place of work you must join ). but, the artists want their music to be played, so they tend to give the copies to the stations for free.

these days, it wouldnt surprise me if there was a computerized format for a lot of their music.

i work at a music store, have played in bands, and been around music and had things copyrighted before. i bet they have a website, but when i did it, i had to fill out a form to join, and then fill out some forms to copyright the songs i had written. didnt make much money off it yet, but theres always hope. a friend of mine made a few thousand bucks one year though.

I completely realize what you're speaking approximately! I even flipped to 2 one-of-a-kind rock stations that have been gambling the equal track!!! But I trust the others. The radio stations hold gambling them considering the fact that the songs are in call for. The simplest idea I can deliver you is move out and purchase a few CDs so you'll transfer to them while a notably demanding track comes on.

I think radio stations need to pay some kind of fee for the rights to play the songs and to have them in their collection but I think sometimes they're allowed to play them for free if the artist approves it.

I worked at a college station for many years and all the music we got was free, promos, or promotional copies. And when you are a DJ you will sometimes get an extra copy to keep for yourself.
