Actually that is quite prophetic! To often I have seen people marry only to have the wife sleep all day and do nothing. If a man does not work he is called a lazy bum, if a woman does not work, the poor dear must be depressed. To many times all the female brings to the marriage is sex, and that ends with the honeymoon!
And women wonder why males don't want to commit to marriage!

"Are men as doomed as my dad claims?"
Some are. Sounds like your dad is. He's just being cynical and talking about the very worst case scenario. Still, there are definitely some of the situations he describes out there. So, don't get married before you have a nice, long engagement, and meet all the family, and get to know your intended real well. You might want to consider pre-marital counseling, as well. Given your upbringing, you may need it before you will feel good about moving forward.

your Dad has obviously been in bad relationships. Don't let him put these negative ideas in your head. When you meet the right person, you decide if you should get married. Marriage isn't all bad, but just like being single there are positive and negatives to both.Your Dad should seek counselling to get over some of these negative feelings against marriage and women.

Sounds like your dad knows his stuff. He's right on the money with the whole marriage scenario.
Men aren't doomed if they don't get married, so stay single.

Marriage is the ultimate expression of Love for your mate. If you get married..don't cheat....and if your wife doesn't want to have sex with you..you obviously need to explore ways to make it more enjoyable for her. As far as the nagging pain is the*** notion, Holy crap!!! No we are not doomed!!! It takes two to tango. If you prefer tango-ing with your father, then wear earplugs.

all of that is very true; the man gets the short end of the shaft. that's why it is important to choose the right person and not to get married until you are ready. i used to say that there is no reason to get married. "if you want to be with me forever, you can be with me forever." there is no reason to have to put it on paper. but now that i am married, it has its down side, but i'd rather be married. your dad has mentioned some good eye openers, but don't let that sway your decision to get married if you are in love and think you've found "the one".

Yes I think men should get married. And they should also learn how to treat women. The problem with alot of men, and even women, is that society says that we should think of ourselves first. Well if we all went into marriage with the mentality that my partner comes before me, we would be alot better off.
Think of your partner, and their feelings and needs before your own, and I can guarentee you, it will make a BIG difference in your marriage.
I think if we took that attitude into our marriages, the divorce rate wouldn't be what it is today.

No, and I am sad to hear about the dismal condition of your father's marriage.
Studies show that married men live up to 10 years longer than single men. And when men are widowed, they tend to die within 5 years of losing their wives.
