not officially, but elenor roosevelt did make presidential decisions for about a month during which FDR was really ill..so in a way, eleanor was a president.
Many feel that a woman is not capable of holding this office but I am sure that we will see a female president within our life time. if not Clinton then someone else. The tables are turning.

There has not been a woman president of the USA in it's history. American society has never been ready but we are getting there. And one interesting thing to note is that since women have been able to vote(circa 1919-1920), I'm almost certain they traditionally account for more votes than men which means the women are the ones who vote the winner. I know since then there have been a few occassions where a woman was in the running, whether in the primary stages or towards the end, so go figure.....the women themselves didn't even want a woman. But probably within the next 15-20 years there will be a woman president.

No, there haven't been, although women have run for both president and vice president. The US is still a sexist country, and many people are just not ready for a woman president. We still don't have anywhere near 50% representation in the House or Senate, or even local governments, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, I think lots of people perceive women as emotional, catty, unreliable due to family concerns, or otherwise incompetent to hold office. Hopefully, that will change, but remember: it was still within a lifetime that women were expected to marry young, have children, and do little else. We've come a long way, baby, but we've still got aways to go.

No!
when USA got its freedom and accepted democracy,
women did not have the right to vote let alone become the president.
Only during the later 19th century when womens liberation and
equality for both gender became strong did they get right to vote
some 80 yeares ago women were indeed considred incapable,
but things have changed
currently Condolisa Rice is holding the highest position in the USA hierchy among women.

No there has never been a woman president.
women have always been held back in the polotical areana. it hasn't been all that long that women could not even vote in america.
Black males were given the right to vote in 1865 many years before females (black or white was).
To be honest two things happen. Women don't support women that much. And women have not steped forward in the political areana as they should when given the chance.
There are more women than men and they have political clout they don't utilize.
Women like the men follow a political party ; either democrat or republican and tend to toe the party line once in office thus destroying them as the huge political clout they should be.

Nope. No women were ever candidates in the final election. They were in the primaries, but so far they have never been as popular as the male candidates. I don't think it has to do with capability or keeping faith. I think there is a very good chance that somebody like Rice could win.

No woman prez....I don't think we're ready for that yet. Nothing against women, I love ya'll to death, but a woman Commander in Chief....nope. A lot of countries would see that as a sign of weakness. Women here have more rights than anywhere else. Condi Rice may be a smart woman, but a bad choice for Secretary of State. Not that she's inadequate, but simply because of cultures like those in the middle east see women as inferior. They don't take us seriously.

There has not been one yet. For a long time women could not even vote, Now there are women in many parts of our government.
And it may be time for it, but in society, it may still be that alot of people would not support a women president.
( I don't think my mother would)

Well technically there was. Roosevelt's wife. When he was diagnosed with Polio someone had to do his work, and it certainly wasn't his vice. So in a way there was a women president. (Just not officially)

In most other nations, women have more rights than they do in Britain and America. It's just that they don't go around shouting about it.
