It's size over talent these days....if you're not 6' 4" and 210 lbs, you won't make it in the NHL and the fans get subjected to boring hockey games!!!

yes the NHL was getting bigger but the players were getting slower and lazy, and that's when the clutching and grabbing begin. in the 90's to many teams came in the NHL and that more teams with less talented players and less superstars on a team so the scoring went down plus the goalie equipment got bigger. with the new NHL today they are looking for smaller guys that didn't make the NHL cause of there size, but a player that was ranked 120th before the new rules, and before the NHL entry draft, the scouts had started looking more at the smaller talent players and now they are ranked in the 60's to 80's once they were ranked 120th. yes they still want the big players but the ones that can skate. look at the Flyers Hatcher he could never skate but was considered a top D-man, cause he was always clutching and grabbing, today if he does it he will be penalized and he is not even among the top 100 D-man in today's NHL.

roadrunne...>>>> i agreed with you till you said stop the fighting if you don't like it then these game is not for you. its part of the game and it always will be. fighting its not just about beating the other guy up, its part of the game. they get in fights to pump up there players when your team is down and if your playing at home and you beat the guy up you pump up 20,000 plus fans and get the game back on the right track if your losing. and you need these guys to protect players like Briere, Koivu. so if Chara smashes Briere from behind and he gets back up what do you think Briere can do to Chara, really thionk about what you said cause fighting will always be there, and if you don't like it the like i said don't watch it cause its not your game.

DAfMaNnED>>>> did you just wake up from a coma, cause that was the 90's size over talent. if you can skate then your in 6'4 230lbs or if your 5'6 160lbs. but the scouts are starting too look more at smaler players cause of there speed. WAKE UP DAfMaNnED THE NEW NHL IS ALL ABOUT SPEED.

It's boring because the teams still employ the linebackers on skates from the pre-lockout era. Look at the Flyers, they suck because they still think that the Broad Street Bullies style of play wins championships.

But in the NHL, stupidity reigns supreme. Nature will determine the future, the one with about 20 teams and old time hockey being played in northern cities and with one referee.

SNIDER MUST GO !!!!!

I think the NHL is just starting to get more exciting. With cutting down on clutch & grab, the small players with all the sweet moves are getting their chance to shine. They just need to eliminate the fighting, that will make teams drop their goons and we'll see even more speed.

Hockey and Soccer are lame because of the goalie. Put a round target up on a wall and then it will be interesting. I hate sports with goalies. Just my personal preference.

obviously you have never stepped on the ice with a pair of skates on your feet...otherwise, you would not ask such a stupid question. do you want the clutch and grab brand of hockey that tortured all of us for 10 years. i'll bet your team took a beating tonight.
