I'm attempting to do vocals for a metal band in the near future. I"ve got a decent range of screams, but I was wondering if anyone has some tips.. Like on how to keep my throat lubricated and whatnot so my growls don't get weak, how to protect my throat, any exercises, etc. thanks in advance!!

Well, since starbucks is expensive and hard to come by in the depths of good ol' grundy, I'm going to have to agree with one of the above answers which is gargle with warm salt water, but also drinking warm water with lemon will help. The heat relaxes your throat and the acidity of the lemon will clear it up. Tea is also good. Rumor has it that milk is good for lubrication when growling. Always get a lot of sleep because screaming and growling tear up your throat and sleep will help repair that. Not sure on exercises but did a quick search and turned up a few sites that might help you:

Tea with honey. The best sounding voices in hard rock are not screaming. Let the guitar do the screaming.

well...something hot and liquidy like starbucks always feels good on a throat, and if you do have something that comes up gargle with warm water and salt. i know it sounds gross but if you've got a sore throat it'll feel alot better. :)

Screaming isn't singing. I heard that tea works well.
