To Melvin C~

1. Don’t make this a racial problem, this is very stupid. All races in the world are equal. Some of them are stupid, some of them are more stupid to think they are not stupid. Once you mention which part of white people that is good, I can tell you the bad part in return; once you said the bad part of Chinese, I can tell you the good one in return. This game is useless and pretty stupid. The only way to jump out this loop is don’t make this a racial problem.

2. Who should be responsible for today’s situation in Indo? As an example: If you walk on the street and bitten by a dog, will you bite the dog back or go for the dog’s owner?
Indo’s presidents are responsible for this entire messy problem with racism. In Indo’s history, there was no Chinese people become a president. There will not be either. Chinese in Indo are not all good, not all are bad. So is this the best Indo gov’t can do? Why don’t you say that Indo gov’t does have wisdom to solve this problem? When problem comes, it’s easier to blame than face it. This is what I think about Indo now. Blaming others only makes you feel better, and then, come on, after that you still have to accept what it is. If you don’t agree with me, fine, bite the dog back when you got bitten.

I agree with the opinions that Indonesians hate Indonesian-born-Chinese. According to the answers here, Chinese people have a lot of factories, more wealthy than Indonesians, pay below the average and bla bla bla. But does anyone ever think that why can all of these things successfully done? If it's not because of the help from Indonesian's themselves, because of the government which almost all of them are Indonesians, Chinese people won't have a chance to develop in Indonesia. They won't get the permit and the opportunity for doing business in this country. Before starting to blame others, why don't the Indonesians blame themselves?

Look at USA or Germany. Those countries are big, well-developed countries. They are surely have racism like 50 years ago and keep on reducing until now. Black and white people work together, in the office, in NBA or other sport games, share the thinking, become friends...

Indonesia has exactly the same problem with racism. One thing never change, the Indonesians can only hate Chinese without trying to accept them. This is probably why Indonesia is still developing country until now. The major problem is never been solved. Indonesian's mind are still left 50 years behind.

I would rather say, not every Chinese live in glory and earn a lot of money. The wealthy people happens to be the famous one. Instead of thinking why they can have that kind of life, it might be good for Indonesians to accept the presence of Chinese and other ethnic group under one nationality, Indonesian. They have the same ID and passport like all Indonesians and in overseas, they are known as Indonesian!

I believe that nobody in Indonesia would like to discriminate true Indonesian and Chinese community people. I have both friends from both sides. Though it's true in some way that Chinese people in Indonesia are generally wealthier than Indonesians themselves, but this is also due to their hard working attitude. If you really observe, wealthy Indonesians are not just few of them.

Discriminations are always there, coming from all over the places since they were born. When can they live side by side in peace like Singapore or Malaysia?

It's just a dream.

True Indonesian may hate Chinese community but see how these statements change your opinion. Most biggest opportunities are prioritized to true Indonesians. Powerful positions in the government are given to true Indonesians. Less chances for Chinese. So who hates who?

Like it or not, they need each other.

As individuals it's hard to say because Indonesian individuals are wonderful people. But as a whole there is no question they HATE Chinese. They raped, killed and mutilated thousands in the riots while leaving most other foreigners untouched (thanks).
There are many reasons for this hatered, mostly financial. For the most part Madarins just have a way with money and influence. And most Indonesians feel totally opressed by them in their own country.
For generations Chinese corruption has kept them in control of most of the profitable business in Indonesia, even when it was illegal for them to own even shares in major industries. And many Indonesians blame Chinese for their own government's deplorable corruption.
The Chinese run most major factories in Indonesia. They often pay well below the legal minimum wage, which is already far to little to live on. They give preference to fellow Chinese for all management positions often illegally importing relatives even for the lowest management positions, in a country with greater unemployment than any I have ever visited. This leaves Indonesians, rightfully, feeling like there is no way to get ahead.

I don't know if hate is the right word but there is a lot of resentment of chinese Indonesians because they are seen to be much richer than the non chinese and to unfairly control a lot of local business. Please note that the Chinese are "true" indonesians as well being born having been born and lived there for many generations.

I was there during the time of soharto and he really hated the chinese. They took away the riches from the indonesians and they had a lot of business that put local indonesians to shame. After the may 1998 riots, the CHinese have come out in full force and everytime i return, there are a lot of chinese who take advantage of the situation in Indonesia. In Manga Dua, or the ITC building, it's mostly run by chinese people so in a sense, the poor indonesians are getting screwed.

I have nothing against the chinese but when the chinese took away the job opportunities of the poor, you will find the people indonesians really sore at them. living in indonesia for 20 years, and survived the may 98 riots, I think there is a deep hatred for the chinese. I don't hate them but i would feel sore at them for stealing money.

I was born in indonesia but from another place. The sukardi's are a very well and rich family. THe daughter is hot and went in the same school as me but she is a spoiled brat. I feel sorry for the true indo's who suffer from being underpaid.

I'm an Indonesian Chinese and having lived here for long, I'll answer this based on my experience(let's get to the young generations who will change the mindset of the older generations)

I attend a religious buddhist school where most of the students are Chinese. There are still natives who aren't buddhists but attend the school as well. Our school provides Muslim and Christian teachers for them.

We get along very well, the natives tend to be the funniest or the class' clowns. Without them, the class would've been dead.

I'll say my teachers who are natives are somewhat biased towards the native students as the use the term 'orang cina' to refer to the Chinese students.
Orang=people. Cina=China.

From my daily experience, the uneducated natives boys tend to harrass the Chinese GIRLS by hitting up on them(disgustingly) but the educated ones don't.

It depends on how the children are brought up. If the parents are shallow-minded, the children will be brought up racist and otherwise.

i think of the certainty that the hatred comes the certainty that the chinese language took greater than a number of the roles from the locals. it relatively is basically like how unlawful immigrants take the artwork of locals. i'm no longer asserting the chinese language in Indonesia are unlawful because of the fact I relatively have lived there for 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days plus. i've got lived in the process the could 1998 riots. yet until eventually now Soeharto fell, you had a great stability between locals offering a great share of the economic gadget. submit Soeharto created a fall that the chinese language took over greater than a number of the economic gadget. A healthful economic gadget should not be according to foreigners however the locals themselves. How might you experience if China replaced into being overtaken via the U. S. in terms of economic gadget. you will possibly experience offended for no longer telling your gov to no longer be so based on them. Indonesian locals are suffering because of the fact they could't help their u . s . a . on their own. I have not have been given any themes with the chinese language because of the fact in Indonesia they provide particularly sturdy electronics on the department shops like Ratu Plaza yet experience that locals ought to have greater enter to their u . s . a .. in case you examine out Manga Dua, it relatively is quite often the chinese language that runs those stalls. the U. S. is a sturdy economic gadget because of the fact it has administration over who can do this and that. they shop a stability between American companies and distant places companies. regardless of if distant places companies drop out, the U. S. can nevertheless stand via itself. The case isn't for Jakarta. get rid of the foreigners, Indonesia will give way. i understand many Indonesian chinese language pals. they at the instant are not undesirable human beings. i might experience sore if I had to be based on others just to maintain the rustic afloat. on your information i'm no longer from Indonesia yet replaced into born there. the different years have been spent in Australia. EDIT: First take out the corruption interior the poltics sector. however the shortcoming of jobs is one reason the locals hated the chinese language genuine undesirable.

If I can say, everyone on earth do not favour Chinese very well. Do the white love Chinese? I don't think so.

The Chinese has a very bad attitude, in that they will go fo money alone, and will get it by any means.

The Chinese will be insensitive, and will not hestitate to build huge building, drive big car to show off.

Who don't hate Chinese? Do the Auzy love them when they start building their building to spoil the sky line in Sydney?

Do the American love them when the take away business?

So do the Indonesia, who always blame the Chinese for taking away their country wealth.

Another thing about Chinese is, they tends to look down on the less fortunate one. Especially those whom they deem as lazy.

Don't blame me, I am a Chinese, and am not proud of this part of my own heritage. But I am teaching my children not to be that way.

So. . . . hum. . . the Indon don't favour Chinese. Given them half a chance, they will rob, kill, steal, rape the chinese.

I used to love our Indonesian maid who took care of my grand parents. I changed my point of view toward her after I learned the hate crime occurred in Indonesia in 1998, especially the rape crimes. It might not be fair to her, but that's exactly how I feel and see Indonesians.

For me, this is almost the same as Nanjing Massacre in WWII. I hope this kind of things will never happen again, for bitterness will brew the revenge.
