I'll just answer your question on it's merits as a stand alone question unlike other f*ckw*ts, so as we can all have more fun...(-:
transport a aircraft carrier to ancient Rome & they might be perceived as gods initially...lets make it a nuclear powered carrier...and lets assume the carrier is stuck there through an anomaly etc...
...using today's tactics...it would be very unlikely that the USN carrier could not conquer the entire Roman Empire and the world...
* I would start by smashing Rome to bits from the air and unifying all the Empire...using personnel from the ship to rule over every colony and outpost...firstly I would meet with the Julius Ceasar and come to terms, and see if a revolt would be more on the cards rather than a shock and awe campaign...
* I would then secure deposits of oil in the middle east and ire ore in Europe etc and begin sending engineering teams to begin processing and manufacture of vital metals...for manufacture & gold for reward...
* No marines would be used in any attacks against Rome or any other enemy...they will only be used as garrisons to secure areas...this is to save them for any unforseen eventuations etc...remember we only have 5000+ personnel to secure all europe then asia...they are to used sparingly and with this in mind...
* The ship should also be quarantined until we know more about ancient dieseases...cos if struck down, our people really would be in trouble...therefore all attacks are to be maintained from aircraft...
* A new port will required as a base of operations and away from populations of natives...this will be Cyprus...chosen ahead of Byzantium/Constantinople(present day Istambul)...because of its location in proximity to west to east and it's an island & is safe from the locals...the carrier will be based there as will the new city and port and manufacturing centre...all away from prying eyes...
* With such rewards never seen before for victorious commanders and soldiers, the new Roman army would continue to grow, as would morale, as they could not be defeated...air stikes on the enemy would proceed every invasion as a shock and awe campaign to deflate the enemy and to create a god like fear in the enemy...the converted Romans would then march and capture city after city or colony and begin the integration...
* this would continue on until all land masses connected to Eurasia would be under direct control of of the new Rome controlled by the US Navy ship...
...after a break from conquering etc, all reserves of everything would be topped up and manufacturing would take the place of war until the rest of the world was next to be conquered...
*** Hope you like my portrail of what would happen...in a more realistic scenario with regulations still being followed by naval staff etc...I would sail the carrier via remote to the middle of an ocean and sink it and would implore all the staff to seek husbands and wifes and work as farmers in the outskirts of the empire and not to interfere in history for the rest of their natural lives... This question is idiotic. One US aircraft carrier transported back to the time of the Roman Empire could conquer the world, not just Rome. One F-18 could destroy a fleet. It would not even be touched. How would you shoot it down? By a thrown spear or as the case may be a pilum? With nuclear weapons one use would terrify the world back then. They could not do anything to stop it. Assuming a commander ruthless enough to use them. You have marines and M-16's and other modern hand weapons. Even the sailors would have them in the storage lockers. Machine guns, cannon in aircraft. Rockets, the closest thing to imagine would be the original "Stargate" movie. The ancient world would react the same way to a modern nuclear carrier suddenly in its midst. But why the hell would you want to destroy Rome? With all its fault's it is the basis of modern western civilization. And don't any of you realize that a nuclear carrier does not require a tanker? there are years of stores for the aircraft, even in modern combat. It would be nothing like that back then.

The Western Roman Empire fell in 456 ad in the course of the reign of Emperor Honorous in spite of the indisputable fact that the jap Roman Empire lasted till 1240 - even as it became invaded and sacked by technique of the Venitians and German/French Crusaders...afterwards it languished till 1453 even as it fell to the Ottoman Turks. The Byzintines were not quite an extension of the Western R.E.

No. The Roman empire stretched over multiple continents. It was the largest empire in history until the British empire of the 1800s.
One aircraft carrier could certainly destroy or take over a city, but not the Roman empire.

No way, we had 2 off of Vietnam and lost that one. And Vietnam was just one country, Roman Empire went from Persia,AfricaEurope and the British Isles. 50 Aircraft Carriers would slow them down, but no way.

They'd decimate the legions and cause panic in the streets along the Apian Way in the beginning, but in the end, poor morale, no jet fuel, no spare parts and low munitions would spell the end of the carrier after 5-10 years.

Cortez was able to slaughter the Azteks in Peru without hardly losing a man, just because he had A) horses and B) guns.
A minor technological advantage goes a LONG way - and an aircraft carrier loaded with planes, munitions, and radio communication would be a HUGE technological advantage.
Yea, my guess is that that war would last about 2 days before the Emperor surrendered.
