I think national service is good, but it should be voluntary. People shouldn't be forced to do anything. The only exception would be if we had a legitimate need to go to war (such as WWII, not Iraq or Vietnam), it would be appropriate to have a draft so we could defend the freedoms that we all enjoy - or used to enjoy before the Bush dictatorship.

Its not mandatory. If you don't want to take part, you are free to leave and not come back. Think of all the things this nation and its people do for you. Yea its not always the best and we have our problems but go to any other country in the world and see if you have the freedoms you enjoy so much here. In times of need you may be called upon by your govt to protect your way of life. I say its the least you can do to protect this country from danger. If people would quit being little *****'s about $*** maybe we wouldn't have so many problems.

They've employed compulsory military service in some European countries for years, and it's worked beautifully. They are most often neutral countries and enjoy low rates of terrorism yet a highly trained, easily deployable force. They can be called up well into their 40's even though they are generally kept in service very briefly. And everyone is subject to recall.

If even "the rich" had to go to war well after their 40th birthday, how often do you think they'd wage it voluntarily?

I say (as a daughter of a large, military family) everyone should pull their weight. If you can't send your CHILD off to fight there, why would you send anyone else's? If it's genuine need, then fine. We would all pull our weight anyways, wouldn't we? (Yes, I'm an optimist.) But if it's not - I think the US would be much more anti-war and only send them off as needed if the 'priviledged few' were also facing the front lines..

I hope, anyway.

I study over the different persons' reaction subsequently a methods, and mutually as a lot of them have some great enter, it is going to be noted that national service does no longer mean basically the defense force determination. They do this for the duration of Israel, yet then once you reside in a rustic smaller than Texas and surrounded by skill of folk who might % to bop on your graves, coaching each guy, female and infant a thank you to shoot a gun would not sound like this style of undesirable theory. national service in usa may well be a sturdy element, i think of. it must be the defense force, or it ought to - like in the process the great melancholy of the 1930's - be like the WPP, wherein women and adult men people have been placed to artwork development the rustic's highways and briges and such. all and sundry gained out on that, and FDR replaced into relatively briliant to champion its enactment. people have been fed and clothed and housed (as adversarial to ravenous, which replaced right into a real probability lower back then), and taught a valuable genuine-international skill. Or different possibilities ought to incorporate Peace Corps, or Habitat for Humanity, or some such service that demands that one places the desires of others until now themselves. people are accused of being egocentric the international around, so this could be a nifty element to do. in a while, people can circulate off to college or international-huge excursion with KISS (or regardless of), in spite of the undeniable fact that it is going to be stated that this might basically artwork if all and sundry had to do it, regardless of their race, creed, financial status, or visual charm. have faith fund babies working at putting mutually an identical domicile as childrens from South crucial may well be sturdy to work out. guy, I in basic terms found out i may well be doing you homework for you...in case you utilize my stuff, you extra desirable provide a shout out to me, ok?

If it didn't interfere with our freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I would agree that everyone should have some time in the military.
But the choice does belong to us. I think that everyone would benefit from the time served, but it should be up to us to decide whether we want to or not. I chose to serve and I'm still serving, but that is entirely my choice, and I'm glad I have the right to do so.
