Social Services is a better word for welfare. Just state that it is a free income for those that can not find work and are not drawing unemployment. It is sponsored by the goverment. But, the working man pays for it. Some time it runs in families, like a virus. Social services give more to people than the working man can. there are many working men out there that don't have money in their pockets, can't send their children to the dentist. or get eye glasses as they need them. Welfare clients can get just about anything they want whether needed or not. These people should be made to get out and rake leaves, shovel side walks, mow lawns, for senior citizens and disabled people. To earn aleast some of their income. If I dare say, most of them are lazy. I used to deliver mail, the box was not shoveled out, The check was in the mail for them and I thought to be nice I would try to pull up and deposit the check. Well, I got stuck in over a foot of snow, While I was trying to get out, there were 4 adults watching out the window . Ugggggggggggh

Check out www.firstgov.gov and put welfare in the search box. You can find statistics and information and it's all from government sights that you can trust.

Yes. i was 26 yrs old, two children. Living the American dream I thought. One day my husband left and didn't return. I waited for a day. Called everyone I knew when I went to the neighbor way down the road. No one knew where he was. Called the hospitals, police. Went crazy. Then a friend of his said he had gotten a foreclosure on the house that morning he left. Couldn't fave me. I had no phone, no car, no money, no family around, nothing. My 6yr. old took a not to school asking them to let her call a friend of mine on their phone to tell her to come to the house. she did. I went to live with her and her husband and child in a tiney little house with 1 BR. I went to the Welfare offive the next day to get help. I met with a very young woman, about 22-23 yrs. old. Told her what my situation was. She asked me to sell my furniture. I asked her how was I going to do that when I didn't have the house, not car or truck or phone? I was crying by then. Then she told me she could buy me a bus ticket home. I told her no. I live here and I don't want a ticket anyplace. I broke down, left the office and just by chance an elderly woman saw mw and came after me and asked mw what was wrong and I told her, that girl in there hasn't ever been in my position, I came here for help, not advice. I have nothing and I have two kids. Then she proceeded to help me with forms, getting food and contacts to get housing and all that. I decided to go back to get my GED after a few months. I did. Then about 6 mos. later I got a call asking me if I would be interested in going to college if they paid for it. i said OH YES! It was hard but I did and was on the Deans list for the 4 semesters I went. I got my Medical assistant certificate and a job and insurance for me and my kids and a car and loved it! So, yes i know what it's like to have to ask for help, to swallow your pride because your kids need to eat. I feel it gave me the opportunity to help myself and my children to get out of a bad situation and gave me a hand up which I needed. Now I went to college with about 7 other women and all but 2 made it through and that is not bad. We were off the welfare rolls a lot quicker than if we were just sitting and not going to school. So, I believe in helping people to help themselves. I don't believe children should be raised in poverty and today most children on welfare are in poverty and a lot of women who aren't as intelligent as some of us can't get thgough a program like that. I don't believe children should suffer if that's the case, we must keep out children fed, clothed and housed. We can't ignore the vrisis we are in today. Now I did thid back about 30 yrs ago. and that was in a city up north things are different here in the south now. They expect mothers to work with no childcare and for minimum wage and no transportation, it's a terrible thing to make them do without because they can't have these things here in the south where we are poor and have very few jobs. Most are minimum wage, no hours and no benefits either. Hey, didn't mean to write a book. good luck with your paper! I believe the program I went through was JEPTA in CT. It was funded by business and the state.
